Resumen

Property ownership is an integral part of the American dream. Owning a house is an important part of developing a middle to upper class identity in the United States. One aspect of homeownership that is explored in this anthropological paper is the phenomenon of naming a house and its relationship to other identity formation processes. A few criteria for this interesting ritual are explored with an emphasis on the changing trends in American practice with a focus on South Florida.
