In northeastern Mexico, despite economic growth, social and environmental problems related to the industry persist. This study explores factors that promote sustainability in the local automotive industry. Using non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational, and explanatory quantitative methods, the impact of these factors was investigated in 80 manufacturing plants in the region. Through surveys and a multivariable linear regression model, empirical support was found for the implementation of energy management systems, the promotion of gender equality, worker training and well-being, increased staff productivity, and the reduction of solid waste. It is highlighted that the impact of gender equality varies according to the lower hierarchical level. However, no significant evidence was found regarding the effect of renewable energies and carbon reduction on the perception of sustainability. Managerial implications suggest that this knowledge can contribute to the long-term economic prosperity of organizations while minimizing environmental impact and adhering to an ethical social framework. Managers could reach new levels of awareness to adopt sustainability, finding ways to operate that not only focus on the economic dimension but also include social and environmental frameworks.
