Wine tourism is an alternative to diversify sources of income in rural areas that have favorable climatic conditions for growing wine grapes. As a research topic, this has been studied since the mid-nineties, but in Mexico it began to be published almost twenty years later. This descriptive study highlights the growing production of articles on wine tourism in this country. In addition, the most prominent researchers in this field are identified, the main journals where articles have been published are listed, the distribution of research by region is analyzed (mainly Baja California and Queretaro) and it is revealed that the papers are focus mainly on the wine tourism product. It is suggested that there is ample room for future work to explore other lines of wine tourism research in the different wine regions of Mexico.
